The Teeny CLAi Show Reel Collection
…but just in case it doesn’t… this isn’t a reel of our greatest colorist work or our proudest grading moments. It’s designed to be more of an explanation of some of the fine balancing acts that go into transforming a good shot into a great shot, or a bad shot into an acceptable shot or better.
This is the way a good Colorist looks at an image and then adds layer after layer in a complex node based program (DaVinci Resolve is our poison of choice) as the final look for each shot is carefully constructed.
It’s about working with the Director, Producer and DP to form a single vision of the perfect outcome for each shot and for the total production. Being able to see the wood for the trees to advise on what is possible, having a clear creative direction of what you want to achieve, then matching your technical skills to the process with the ultimate degree of excellence! Easy peesy…
But in case you are still struggling with the whole wood/trees analogy I thought that I’d better pop in our 4k video of Jerry Day – a quick little woosh of fun that I enjoy watching, which happens to contain some very delicate large format color grading in a less than delicate lighting environment.
… whew I feel better now that I’ve got that out of the way – and admitted that I’m not a big fan of editing show reels, which tend to be a list of logos and tiny snippets that give not the faintest idea of what you can actually do when driving a edit system.
So this is one of my favorite straight but funky edited pieces that CLAi have made, and I couldn’t fit it in any other category!
This is just a whole bunch of little shots that we at CLAi have taken over the past few years, that I feel represent the breadth and depth of the work that we are asked to undertake – and maybe hint at just a little of the fun we like to mix with our professionalism on every project.
